The Challenge
Career transitions can feel exciting yet spark feelings of fear, uncertainty, and questions about identity.
One of my recent clients, let’s call her Sarah (not her real name), came to me during a very challenging phase of her career. She felt stuck and overwhelmed after months of job applications with little success. The stress began to affect her daily life. She found herself procrastinating, leaving applications unfinished and doubting skills she once trusted.
This is the story of how we worked together to help her reconnect with her strengths, gain clarity and move into her next chapter with intention.
Reconnecting with Her Story
In our first conversation, I encouraged Sarah to share her experiences. I wanted to understand not only what she was doing now, but what she had enjoyed in the past. As she spoke, something shifted. When she talked about her time in communication-focused work, her voice lit up. She remembered the positive feedback she had received, the sense of energy she had felt, and how much she had thrived in those moments.
I gently asked her, “What do you notice when you talk about those times?”
She paused, then smiled:
“That’s when I felt most alive. And I had completely forgotten about it.”
Seeing Her Strengths Again
With her permission, I reflected back what I noticed. Sarah had adapted well to different roles. She had stayed resilient during setbacks. People valued her thoroughness, commitment and ability to work with others.
For Sarah, this was a turning point. She realised she hadn’t lost her skills. She had simply lost sight of them.
“I can see now that I do have strengths,” she said. “I just haven’t been giving myself credit.”

Moving Forward with Clarity
By the end of our first session, we agreed on clear goals:
- Build a mindset that supports focus and motivation
- Gain clarity about her development so she no longer feels scattered
- Explore career options that match her strengths and values
- Move towards a working life that feels more fulfilling
When I asked how she felt at the close of our session, Sarah’s words stayed with me:
“I feel relaxed, calm and at ease.”
From feeling lost and discouraged, Sarah left with renewed hope, a clearer view of her strengths and a simple plan to help her move forward.
A New Chapter Begins
After our work together, Sarah launched her own business. She now supports small companies with creative communication work that helps bring brands to life. She built a path that uses her strengths and feels aligned with who she is.
Sarah’s story shows how clarity often returns when we slow down, reflect and reconnect with the parts of ourselves we may have forgotten.
